As a member of the Creative Crew at Canvas Corp Brands, one of the projects for this month was to design something with a recipe theme. As with most projects, I start by designing the SVG cut files for the Silhouette Cameo. Opposed to doing another recipe box project, I decided to create a berry basket SVG cut file large enough to hold many things including recipe cards and dividers.

Planning the Project Specs

I knew that I didn't want a lid for the basket because I wanted to be able to just toss things into the basket. I might not use recipe cards myself, but I love to design them. So, I decided to feature two of my recipe cards sets and matching dividers as "extras" in this project. As the recipe cards and dividers are 6 inches wide, we need the berry basket to be 6.5 inches wide by 3 inches. And to fit the basket in to a small space, lets make it 2.5 inches in depth. I also wanted to include the iconic open sides of a berry basket. Finally, I needed a trim piece that will fold over and reinforce the top edge of the basket.

SVG Print and Cut Recipe Cards and Dividers

My Vintage and Country recipe cards and matching dividers can be printed on kraft card stock for a vintage theme and match perfectly with the CCB paper collections.

The Paper Collection

This recipe project was to introduce Canvas Corp Brands new Mixology and Vino and Ale paper collections, which have several black ink on kraft card stock designs. As most vintage berry baskets were made from wood or thick paper, I thought that these paper collections would be perfect for my berry basket.

The SVG Cut File

So, the basket SVG cut file will be one piece, with the 3 x 6.5 inch rounded corner base. The slanted sides of the basket will be part of the one piece base and will fold up. Finally, we will need tabs at the top of the sides for attaching each side to an adjacent side. The tabs are .5 inch wide, so the trim that will be glued over the edge of the basket needs to be 1.25 inch wide by 11 inch in length. To make the basket, we will need to cut two from the trim piece.
