Chef, Restaurateur, and Cookbook author, Floyd Cardoz has taken lots of great dishes to a higher level, by adding extra spices and flavors that most of us wouldn’t think of. The result, of course, is phenomenal food, and he has shared it through his book, Flavorwalla.

One recipe, Peter’s Orange and Mustard Grilled Chicken with Chickpeas was delicious; the marinade is one I’ll be using again and again on both chicken and pork, and the recipe was very easy. I also made the Pork Carnitas with Orange and Chipotle. The crispy, tender pork chunks were fabulous on freshly made flour tortillas, and while it was a little more work and quite fat-laden (a heart attack in a tortilla), it was well worth the work and calories. Sticky Toffee Pudding is a favorite English dish, and his recipe is excellent. The recipes are laid out in an easy-to-understand manner, and every one I have tried so far (the queue is quickly growing) has turned out picture-perfect.

The book is full of innovative recipes for vegetables, like Grilled Asparagus with Lemon and Mustard, as well as several mouthwatering salads. Actually, there isn’t a boring recipe in the book, and it will keep most cooks busy and happy for a long time.

The book is organized a bit differently than most cookbooks; there are chapters on Cooking for Tomorrow, Rise and Shine, Summer Cooking, Game Time, and Special Dinners and Parties. The introduction covers spices and ingredients, as well as helpful cooking hints. There is also a section on basics that is very helpful. The pictures are also beautiful, so it’s easy to choose what you want to cook today.

For those who like to cook, especially those who like new ideas and food that is exciting, this is a cookbook that is highly recommended. Not only is it fun to say the name of the book, “Flavorwalla,” but it’s fun to cook from the book.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this cookbook.
