Anyone who has spent time in Florida has most likely eaten good Cuban food and bad Cuban food. Since Cuban food is all the rage, readers and cooks can learn to make good Cuban food in Cuba!: Recipes and Stories from the Cuban Kitchen by a trio of authors,
Dan Goldberg, Andrea Kuhn, and Jody Eddy.

Not only are there dozens of fabulous recipes, the book is a work of art. The photography is amazing, and it’s not just of the dishes; it’s also of Cuban residents, the Cuban landscape, Cuban kitchens, and Cuban tablescapes to give readers a taste of the culture as well as the food.

Instead of traditional Ropa Vieja (considered by most as the national dish of Cuba), the authors feature Ropa Vieja sliders, and a recipe for incredible pickled onions to top the meat. Both of these recipes turned out perfectly and were delicious. The Cuban Fried Rice was also excellent, as well as the Fried Plantains and Rice and Beans. In the queue, I’ll be making the Shredded Beef with Fried Eggs, the Lechon Asada, and Cuchillo Street Egg Rolls. There are several desserts, such as a decadent-looking Mojito Cake, as well as a Coconut Tres Leches Cake.

The recipes in the book are unique, and aren’t those found in every Cuban cookbook. The recipes are easy to understand, call for easy-to-find ingredients, and turn out picture-perfect. There is a nice table of contents, as well as a comprehensive index. The only unfortunate thing about this book is that it will be very difficult to decide which dishes to make first.

The book is pretty enough that it can serve as a coffee-table book when it isn’t being used as a cookbook. Highly recommended!

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this cookbook.
