Scented Homemade Hand Creams for Healthy Hands
Your hands help you with everything you do. If you’re a gardner, during the summer months, they have a tendency to do even more. From pruning to picking to pulling, your hands take a lot of abuse. In this article we’ll take a look at ways to protect your hands and nails with a great smelling hand cream and cuticle oil.

One of the key factors to soft hands is to keep them moisturized throughout the day, especially after washing. Keep a lotion bottle or jar filled with your favorite hand cream and you’ll have soft hands year round.

Here are a few recipes to make for your shelf:

Hand Cream for Dry Rough Hands

3 tablespoons of beeswax
1 tablespoon avocado oil
1/2 cup light sesame oil
2 tablespoons strong chamomile tea
1 tablespoon coconut oil
1 teaspoon honey
1/8 teaspoon baking soda

Combine all the ingredients into a gleam, heat-resistant contain or double boiler. You can heat using the microwave or over medium heat on the stove top. Make sure all the beeswax and oils are melted. Pour all of the melted mixture into a container or jar and let it completely cool. Stir once more to make sure all of the ingredients blended well together. This should give you about 4 ounces.

You can use this cream before and after gardening to help protect and condition your hands. Massage a small amount into the palm of your hands and fingers. Don’t forget to get under your nail bed just before your add your gloves.

Jojoba Cuticle Oil

1 tablespoon jojoba oil
1 teaspoon almond
1/2 teaspoon vitamin E oil
2 drops of lavender essential oil

Mix all three oils together. Add the essential oil into a clean container and then pour the three oil blend onto of essential oil. Turn up and down a few times to blend or gently shake to make sure the essential oils has married with the carrier oils. Massage a small amount into your cuticles after bathing or after soaking your nails in warm water.

Jojoba oil is light, non-greasy and easily absorbed into your skin and nails. This recipe should give you about 1 ounce of oil.

Hand Care Tips

Fresh lemons are natural astringents and disinfectants and will leave your hands smelling clean and fresh. By simply cutting a lemon in half and rubbing the juice on your skin for 5 minutes, you’ll experience the beauty of lemon. Rinse well with warm water.

Did you know that working around tomato plants can stain your hands a pale yellow green color? However, a green tomato can actually remove the stains. Cut the green tomato in half and rub the fresh juice all over your hands. Leave on for 5 minutes and rinse well with warm water.

To keep dirt from getting under your nails, scratch a soft bar of soap. You can also use coconut oil or cocoa butter. The key is to have a substance that’s healthy to block the dirt from being able to get under your nails.

Garden gloves work wonders when it comes to taking care of your hands and nails. Make it a habit to massage your hand cream or lotion into your hands before you put your gloves on. This way the gloves create moisture that can aid in softening your hands as you work.

That's it for this week. Until next time …
