What a fun cookbook! The Short Stack Cookbook is a compilation of several single-ingredient cookbooks by Nick Fauchald and Kaitlyn Goalen. The ingredients are actually random foods found in most kitchens, such as bacon, mayonnaise, yogurt, honey, lemons, and kale, to name a few. There are several really good recipes for each of the ingredients ranging from appetizers and breads to salads, main dishes and desserts.

Needing a quick bread to accompany soup one evening, I made the Mayonnaise Biscuits; they were easy and turned out perfectly. I have a huge list of appealing recipes in my queue, and have already prepared the Cheddar and Rye Gougeres and the Cheddar Walnut Shortbread (due to an abundance of sharp cheddar that needed to be used up quickly). The Nacho Tortilla has become a go-to quick supper dish at my house, and the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes have already been requested more than once on lazy weekend mornings. I served the The Pork Tenderloin with Honey-Peach Barbecue Sauce to company with rave reviews.

The book is well-written with explanations and stories preceding each recipe. The instructions are easy to understand, and none of the recipes has been difficult.

The recipes run the gamut from American to Mexican, Chinese, Thai, to Persian. There are enough appealing, mouthwatering offerings to keep anyone cooking fun new dishes for months.

All told, this cookbook has something for everyone: quick and easy, healthy, fattening and decadent, and trendy (bacon is paired with dark chocolate chunks in cookies, black pepper stars in some delicious buttery crackers, and kale is used in yummy salsa verde).

Anyone who loves to cook should definitely add this book to their cookbook collection. It will be used often and the results, which have obviously been tested multiple times, will be stunning.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this cookbook.
