Thread Bear Challenge

The 2nd ThreadTeds Challenge - enter your thread crochet bear!

Following on the success of the first ThReAdTeDs® challenge in 2005, Berta Hesen-Minten from threadteds.com (for more information about Berta and her work take a look at our wonderful BellaOnline interview), has announced that it will be taking place again. The challenge will be free to enter, although it is only available to those members of the Threadanimals Yahoo group (which is free to join and new members are made very welcome). Many thread and fiber artists are members of the Threadanimal group and there are lots of resources that are freely available. For further details about the challenge including where and when to send pictures etc will be posted in the group.

This Original Thread and Fiber Bear group teaches and learns, shares, enjoys and gives people awareness of the world of thread crochet and felted miniature teddy bears as well as other animals made with thread and fibers. The group has free patterns for thread animals to get beginners started. Within the group 'thread' refers to all yarns and fibers, from sewing thread to the largest bulky yarns. The group also discuss needle felting of wool and other roved fibers. No experience is necessary.

The group also has a blog, which is a new venture and is proving to be a useful tool. It can be found at www.threadanimals.blogspot.com

Sign ups for the challenge will be ongoing between 1st April and 31st May 2008 with the submission date for photos of final entries being 22 June 2008. The jury will decide the first, second and third places, and there will be a public vote for the Public Choice award chosen from ALL entries. The prizes will be, First a ‘golden’ crochet hook with a bear-head topper, second will be a ‘silver’ crochet hook with bear-head topper, and third a ‘bronze’ crochet hook with bear-head topper. For the Public Choice winner there will be a crochet hook with bear-head topper as well. The winners will be announced in July 2008.
