Thai food has enjoyed a surge of popularity in the last few years, and with Kiin: Recipes and Stories from Northern Thailand by Nuit Regular, cooks can re-create their favorite recipes at home. This beautiful cookbook not only has some popular favorites, but also new dishes that will appeal to those who love Thai food. Although the dishes included are from just the Northern region of Thailand, there are dozens of recipes that will be familiar to those who eat in Thai restaurants across the country. There are recipes for appetizers, salads, chicken, seafood, beef and pork, curry, and desserts, as well as basic sauces and condiments. There are lists of Thai pantry essentials, as well as a list of equipment needed (only a few things so everyone can make this food).

The photographs are absolutely gorgeous, and they are of not only the mouthwatering dishes, but also people in the country and photographs that reflect the culture of the country. There are photos of almost every recipe (except the basics at the back), which makes it difficult to choose what to make next. The vignettes and stories make one want to travel to the region and eat these delicious dishes firsthand. The recipes are easy to follow and succinct enough that almost everyone, no matter what their cooking skills, can replicate these dishes.

This cookbook is amazing and is one that should be added to every good cookbook collection. The recipes are excellent. It also makes a good book to curl up in a corner and read about a new culture. Highly recommended.
