Sonic X

Guest Author - Lesley Aeschliman

Sonic X is an anime that is adapted from the Sonic the Hedgehog videogames.

In the first episode of Sonic X, Sonic is on a rescue mission to save Cream the Rabbit and Cheese the Chao from Dr. Eggman's headquarters. As Dr. Eggman is about to set off his invention, Sonic tricks one of Dr. Eggman's mecha into shooting the invention. There is an explosion that transports Sonic, his friends, and Dr. Eggman into what appears to be a different dimension.

Sonic ends up being chased by the police, and almost drowns in a backyard pool. Sonic is saved by a 12-year-old boy name Chris Thorndyke. Chris helps Sonic locate his friends. During the series, Sonic and Dr. Eggman are in a race to collect the Chaos Emeralds.

Sonic the Hedgehog is the main character of Sonic X. He's the world's fastest hedgehog, but is also a drifter who lives as he wants. He also has a way of making his life a series of events and adventures. Sonic is usually easy-going, but he has a short temper; he also can be impatient with things that are slower than him.

Tails is a humble and sweet-natured fox, and he really looks up to Sonic. Tails may not be very brave, but he wants to prove to the others that they can count on him. He enjoys tinkering with machines, and he also likes flying mecha.

Amy Rose is Sonic's fan, friend, and love interest. Unfortunately for Amy Rose, Sonic doesn't return her feelings. Amy Rose can also become frustrated with Sonic's impatience.

Cream the Rabbit is a six-year-old that is always accompanied by her Chao named Cheese. She is naive because her mother brought her up like a princess. She politely minds her manners, but can also act childishly. Cream can also achieve flight for short periods of time by flapping her ears.

Rouge the Bat can often be seen hanging from the top of Dr. Eggman's base; she is apparently spying on him. Chris Thorndyke is the main human protagonist of Sonic X. Chris is friendly and quiet, and he forms a strong bond with Sonic.

Dr. Eggman is the main antagonist in Sonic X. He is a rotund scientist with an IQ of 300. Knuckles, the red 16-year-old echidna, starts out as an antagonist for Sonic. Knuckles is physically powerful and is highly resilient. Knuckles is also short tempered.

I have seen the 4Kids Entertainment English dub of Sonic X, and it's a rather family-friendly anime. However, some parents might have problems with their very young children seeing some of the violence in it (such as the mecha shooting at Sonic in the first episode). Personally, I would recommend Sonic X for kids as young as five years old.
