How To Hear From God

Guest Author - Pamela Chambers

God knows all of his children and hears them when they call. Does his children know when God is calling or speaking?

We can hear God by the prompting of the Holy Spirit, through dreams, by entering into Godís presence and studying the word of God. Spiritual hearing and physical hearing are not one in the same; however, Christians sometime, but rarely hear an audible voice when God speaks.

In the Old Testament, the presence of the Holy Spirited rested on people, when God wanted them to complete a mighty work. For example, Moses was chosen to lead the people of God to Canaan. God equipped Moses with everything he needed, to get the job done. God even allowed Mosesí brother Aaron, to do the speaking, because Moses was self-conscious of his stuttering problem. Moses answered to the call for God and led Godís people out of the land of Egypt.

God also demonstrated his awareness in the life of Jacob through a dream. King James Version American Edition, Genesis 28:10-17: Jacob saw angels going up and down as if they were riding an escalator, to and from heaven. Jacob woke from the dream and realized that God was in the midst of him. The dream had such a profound effect, that he named the place Bethel. Although we have dreams and hear from God, we also have to develop a firm foundation, by becoming familiar with the word of God.

Jesus gave us the model prayer for a reason. He wanted us to use the prayer as a pattern to get things accomplished on this earth. The Old Testament books of the Bible provide us types and shadows of things to come. Adam and Eve had authority over the earth, until the serpent twisted the truth, which allowed him to usurp their authority within the Garden of Eden. The Old Testament had priests and kings who ruled and reigned.

Jesus became our King and High Priest, because he gave his life, so that his children may live. Now, we can commune with Jesus by way of the Holy Spirit, which lives inside each Christian to teach all truth. John 1:14: notes: The word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory as of the only begotten Father, full of grace and truth. Jesus gave us authority, that was lost in Eden. Jesus was the complete model of the word in the flesh. As we daily pray to God and worship in his presence, we can follow the posture of Jesus. Jesus was such a great example, that he convinced John to baptize him so that we could follow his path. Bill Johnson (2014) reiterates this point by suggesting in Luke 3:21: during the baptism of Jesus, the Holy Spirit was released and created an open heaven. Johnson notes that an open heaven is continual manifested presence of God. We can be fully aware of the Lord's presence, so we can
be the answer to the call of the world, by healing the sick, raising the dead and casting out demons.
