The 5th Month of the Baha'i Calendar Nur/Light Starts at Sundown June 4
Guest Author - Sandy Mullins

The 5th month of Baha'i Calender Nur or Light starts on June 4 at sundown. The months of the Baha段 (Badi) Calendar are named after attributes or qualities of God. Though out all the writings of the Manifestations of God (Prophets) these qualities and/or terms are used through out..

Buddha says:
"How can you find delight and mirth,
Where there is burning without end?
In deepest darkness you are wrapped!
Why do you not seek for the light?
Look at this puppet here, well rigged,
A heap of many sores, piled up,
Diseased, and full of greediness,
Unstable, and impermanent!
Devoured by old age is this frame,
A prey of sickness, weak and frail;
To pieces breaks this putrid body,
All life must truly end in death."

The Eightfold Path, Buddha, the Word

"The Law be your light,
The Law be your refuge!
Do not look for any other refuge!"

(The Eightfold Path, Buddha, the Word)

Next from the Torah, we have these words:
"I have heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and that light and understanding and surpassing wisdom is found in thee."
Kesuvim (Writings), Daniel)

"And the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun."
Kesuvim (Writings), Koheles (Ecclesiastes)

"But the path of the righteous is as the light of dawn, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day."
Kesuvim (Writings), Mishlei (Proverbs)

"For the commandment is a lamp, and the teaching is light, and reproofs of instruction are the way of life;"
Kesuvim (Writings), Mishlei (Proverbs)

"For with Thee is the fountain of life; in Thy light do we see light."
Kesuvim (Writings), Tehillim (Psalms)

The New Testament of the Bible we hear:
"Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God."
King James Bible, 1 Corinthians

"This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all."
King James Bible, 1 John

Then with Muhammed in the Qu池an:
"God is the patron of those who believe, He brings them forth from darkness into light."
The Qur'an, Sura 2 - The Heifer

"There has come to you from God a light, and a perspicuous Book; God guides thereby those who follow His pleasure to the way of peace, and brings them into a right way."
The Qur'an, Sura 5 - The Table

From the Bab, the forerunner of Baha置値lah:
"O PEOPLES of the earth! Verily the resplendent Light of God hath appeared in your midst, invested with this unerring Book, that ye may be guided aright to the ways of peace and, by the leave of God, step out of the darkness into the light and onto this far-extended Path of Truth"
The Bab, Selections from the Writings of the Bab, p. 61

Baha置値lah, the latest manifestation of God tells us:
"Through Him the light of unity hath shone forth above the horizon of the world, and the law of oneness hath been revealed amidst the nations, who, with radiant faces, have turned towards the Supreme Horizon, and acknowledged that which the Tongue of Utterance hath spoken in the kingdom of His knowledge: "Earth and heaven, glory and dominion, are God's, the Omnipotent, the Almighty, the Lord of grace abounding!"
Baha'u'llah, Epistle to the Son of the Wolf, p. 2

"We ask thee to reflect upon that which hath been revealed, and to be fair and just in thy speech, that perchance the splendors of the daystar of truthfulness and sincerity may shine forth, and may deliver thee from the darkness of ignorance, and illumine the world with the light of knowledge."
Baha'u'llah, Epistle to the Son of the Wolf, p. 10

Abdu値-Baha (Eldest son of Baha置値lah) tells us:
For in the realm of conscience naught but the ray of God's light can command, and on the throne of the heart none but the pervading power of the King of Kings should rule."
Abdu'l-Baha, A Traveller's Narrative, p. 40

"O people of the world, ye are all the fruit of one tree and the leaves of one branch. Walk with perfect charity, concord, affection, and agreement. I swear by the Sun of Truth, the light of agreement shall brighten and illumine the horizons. The all-knowing Truth hath been and is the witness to this saying. Endeavor to attain to this high supreme station which is the station of protection and preservation of mankind. This is the intent of the King of intentions, and this the hope of the Lord of hopes."
Abdu'l-Baha, A Traveler's Narrative, p. 43
