Beer Trips in the Pacific Northwest

Sir Edmund Hillary…Neil Armstrong…Lewis and Clark…Francisco Vasquez de Coronado…adventurers with a heart and soul that matches many of us today. People who love the adrenaline of a new and exciting experience, while feasting on the majestic serenity of mountains, rivers, canyons and sky.

A unique opportunity for discriminating and adventurous beer lovers awaits! Mike Saxton of has a limited amount of openings left for a spectacular excursion in the Pacific Northwest. Salmon River Beer Float runs from August 9th through August 16th, 2005. From Missoula, Montana, (only 3 hours from Bozeman, 2 hours south of Glacier National Park, and in close proximity to the Lolo Trail, Lochsa River and Bob Marshall Wilderness) you will travel through Bitterroot Valley to the Corn Creek Put-in.

The Salmon Main River begins the journey with several miles of calm river to gently immerse you into adventure. Lewis and Clark referred to this river as the “River of No Return", while the Shoshoni Indians called it “Tom-Agit-Pah” or“Big Fish Water.” It opens up to big waves, wide sandy beaches, hot springs, fishing, and hiking in Salmon Canyon.

Here’s the best part, Beer Lovers! You will experience riverside cuisine like no other! Comfortable camp sites…a choice of river craft! Beer dinners, comprised of world-renowned recipes from countries, both on this continent and abroad, will be the bill-of-fare throughout your journey. You will enjoy the camaraderie of like-minded people, within the serenity and enravishment of the canyon and river system. You will experience a wide array of beer styles from Belgium, Britain, Germany, France, Holland, the Czech Republic and North America. Perhaps you will be introduced to a new love: a Belgian Ale – with thick, rocky white head and complexity amidst a delicate palate; a fruity, yet earthy Saison – semi-dry with a touch of sweetness; an English Brown Ale – malty, nutty and sweet on the palate; a Wee Heavy Scottish Ale – deep copper and full-bodied; or a Czech Pilsner - clear and pale as golden straw with spicy bitterness and the distinctive flavor of Saaz hops!

Mike Saxton, founder of, brings over ten years of worldwide travel-industry experience into the heart of every trip. The crew at Lewis & Clark Trail Adventures - your professional guides throughout this marvleous excursion - provides an event that involves the traveler as part of the “adventure family,” and not as an outsider who views without experiencing. Greg Hall, brewer for Goose Island Beer Company, is deeply involved with each trip as beer consultant.

The high rate of returnees is proof enough that provides a beer experience that is top-notch among beer aficionados. Happy camping!
