The story is based on the foster care and adoption experience of Tina’s teenage daughters, Marla and Christa; and the girls provided the colorful illustrations to this delightfully informative book.
The story begins when the police and a social worker show up at the old camper where four-year-old Maggie and her little sister, Molly, loved with their parents. The girls were taken to separate foster homes. Although Maggie’s foster family treats her well, she struggles with finding a place to fit in. More than anything, Maggie wants to live with Molly and her foster family. Finally, a judge makes this happen; and Maggie realizes that she has found the place to fit in!
I really enjoyed this book. I felt Maggie’s mixture of emotions as I read. This is a book that should definitely be on the shelf of every adoption social worker, especially those working with children in the foster care system. I highly recommend this book to all foster parents and anyone considering foster parenting and/or adopting from the foster care system.
