A Midnight Miracle
Guest Author - Diana Pederson

Gary Parker. A Midnight Miracle. Revell. 2005.

Hilltop, North Carolina seems like any quiet, small town until you dig under the surface. Jenna Newsome, runs a child care center where Mickey, the son of Tom and Brenda attends. The boy has a deadly cancer that requires a bone marrow transplant from his little sister. However, the family’s insurance has a “pre-existing condition clause” that lets the insurance company refuse to cover the cost of the necessary surgery.

Brenda lives with a very controlling mother who refuses to let her daughter out of her sight for long. Rem Lincoln, moved to Hilltop when he was 17 years old. He is back visiting his father, who seems to have given up on life since his wife died. He still refuses to talk about earlier years when the family was happy.

A Midnight Miracle tells the story of the people of this town as they struggle with life and death issues, consider who God is, and deepen their faith even though efforts at raising the necessary funds for Mickey’s miracle fall short of the goal.

This story will make anyone dealing with the hurts of the past, current problems, or concerns about their future take a look at God and what He can do with impossible situations.

Gary Parker demonstrates his ability to bring characters to life and write a thoughtful story destined to point you towards considering your relationship to God and your trust in His provisions. The characters might live in any small town in North America. Sadly, this story is true for many families across the nation as this year draws to an end. It is a hopeful story too because Mickey’s miracle is achieved through some very unlikely events.

Recommendation

Put copies under your tree this year for all our friends and relatives. It’s sure to warm the hearts of those who read it. The books are currently available through amazon.com or at your local Christian bookstore.
