1954 - The USS Nautilus was launched. The submarine was the world’s first nuclear powered ship and now serves as a submarine museum in Connecticut.

1968 - The Battle of Khe Sanh, one of the most memorable battles of the Vietnam War began.

Sharing A Birthday Today…

Geena Davis, the star of such films as “Thelma and Louise” and the TV show “Commander In Chief” was born in 1956.

Christian Dior, the acclaimed fashion designer was born in 1905.

Placido Domingo, the famed Spanish opera tenor, was born in 1941.

Richie Havens, the singer of such songs as “Freedom” and “Hands of Time” was born in 1941.

Benny Hill was born this day in 1924. The actor/comedian is probably best known for TV’s “The Benny Hill Show”.

Thomas Jonathan Jackson a.k.a. “Stonewall Jackson”, the legendary Major General for the Confederate forces during the Civil War was born in 1824.

Jack Nicklaus, the accomplished golfer, was born in 1940.

Billy Ocean, singer of such songs as “Get Out Of My Dreams, Get Into My Car” was born in 1950.

Telly Savalas, the star of such films as “The Dirty Dozen” and “The Birdman of Alcatraz” is probably best known for his portrayal of the lead character in “Kojak”. He was born in 1924.

Robert Weston Smith was born in 1938. Smith is best known as the popular Disc Jockey “Wolfman Jack”.

We Said Goodbye To…

Cecil B. DeMille, the man behind the camera of such classics as “Ben Hur” and “The Ten Commandments” passed away in 1959. He was 77.

Vladimir Lenin, former leader of the Soviet Union, passed away on this day in 1924 at the age of 53.

King Louis XVI, the French monarch who was married to the infamous Marie Antoinette, was executed in 1793. He was 38 years old.

George Orwell, prolific author of “Animal Farm” passed away in 1950 at the age of 46.

Colonel Tom Parker, best known for his association with Elvis Presley, passed away in 1997 at the age of 87.

Saint Agnes, the patron saint of girls, was martyred in 304.

Jackie Wilson, legendary singer of “Higher and Higher”, passed away at the age of 49 in 1984.

1984 - “Owner of a Lonely Heart” by Yes

1989 - “Two Hearts” by Phil Collins

Musical Moments In…

1968 - The soundtrack for the motion picture “The Graduate” is released.

1978 - After being released in November 1977, the Bee Gees’ “Saturday Night Fever” hits the top of the album charts.

In Print In…

1789 - America’s first novel, “The Power of Sympathy” by William Hill Brown was published.
