The Aromatherapy Lifestyle

The use of aromatics has been around for centuries or more. Some people even believe that the mention of oils in numerous places in the Bible are referring to essention oils used for aromatherapy. While some people today connect aromatherapy to black magic and nonsense, others believe that the oils should still be used in sacred religious rituals. More and more spas and holistic health practioners are offering aromatherapy as part of their services.

Essential oils come from different parts of plants. It is very time consuming to extract these oils and only a very small amount can be produced from each plant. Luckily, these oils are highly concentrated and are combined with carrier oils before use. While these oils used to only be found in religious or occult stores, there are available quite easily today from these stores and also from many other types of stores including thousands of places on the internet.

Some of these common oils and their uses are:

Bee balm – healing oil when applied to an injured area
Blue cohash – painkiller
Calendula – speeds up the healing process
Chamomile – to get a good night’s sleep
Carnation – increases physical strength
Cypress – promotes healing
Echinacea – promotes a feeling of well being; good for colds
Elder – sleep inducing
Eucalyptus – Strong healing oil; relieves colds; cures headaches
Gardenia – alleviates stress
Ginkgo – promotes a longer life
Hawthorn – wards off depression
Horsetail – increased fertility
Lavender – relaxation and tranquility
Lily of the valley – calming
Morning glory – stops nightmares
Rosemary – healing and peaceful sleep
Royal jelly – energy booster
Sage – charka balancing
Sandalwood – massage into bruised areas
Witch hazel – cleanser and purifier

These oils can be inhaled or absorbed into the body through the skin. Massage therapy is a wonderful place to take advantage of the effects of aromatherapy which can be absorbed into the body in as little as 30 minutes or up to tow hours. Depending on the types of oils used, the effects can be enjoyed for just moments or up to a few days.
