Donations During the Holidays

Donations During the Holidays
Abuse shelters routinely accept donations for the holiday seasons. If you are interested in donating items, or simply want to offer your assistance to the shelter, this is a great time to start. Many times, when the battered parent and children flee the abuse and stay in an abuse shelter, they leave with only the clothes on their backs. They simply do not have time to sit and pack. Many mothers and children leave the house when their abuser is not home. Abuse shelters depend on donations, in order to provide clothes, toiletries, and household supplies to the mother and child in their care.

There are many avenues by which one can donate to the abuse shelter. Perhaps one person can provide the Thanksgiving dinner while another person can provide gift certificates for Christmas. Another means of giving is to give the women and children at the shelter some clothing. If you are skilled in any way, such as carpentry and painting, the shelter may very well be in need of your skills, as a donation of course.

When a person within a community donates items for the women and children, it is a very joyous time for them. When the women take their children and flee to a shelter it is a very stressful and worrisome time for them. They worry about how they will provide for their children. Many women end up returning to the abuse, in order to have food, clothes, and toiletries. However, when those items are provided and donated to the shelter it alleviates the stress for the mother in need. Arts and crafts are also fun to do. Perhaps there is someone that enjoys arts and crafts and has ample supplies. If so, that is a very fun time for the women and children.

I would like to encourage each of my readers to consider donating to their local abuse shelter this holiday season. Items that are in need would be Halloween costumes, birthday presents for all ages, Christmas gifts, Easter baskets, Valentines day goodies etc. There are so many that go without, during the holiday seasons, in order to break free of the abuse. When the items that are needed, such as clothing and toiletries, it makes it that much easier for the mother to remain in the shelter and get help.

Please consider donating supplies, time, or gifts for those in the shelters.
