Love and Happiness

February 14th is very special for so many people. It signifies love for most. People with learning disabilities might not feel the same way. Barriers may stand in their way of finding and keeping the happy relationship that so many cherish. The increase of social skills can increase the chances of having love and happiness in their lives.

Romantic relationships are possible for those with learning disabilities. The first step is to meet people and develop relationships with them. Get to know others and allow the relationships to grow. This may take some time. It will not happen over night. It is easy to rush into a relationship, but if the goal is to develop meaningful relationships, then it will take time.

Self-confidence is needed in order to develop new friendships that may eventually lead to a romantic relationship. You have to know who you are before you give so much of yourself to someone else. It is best to be happy with yourself before trying to make someone else happy.

People with learning disabilities sometime lack the social skills needed to develop strong and loving relationships. It is necessary to have the ability to express yourself to others. Communication is very important to finding love an happiness. Communication, along with commonalities, is a positive start to finding that special someone.

It is necessary to understand your own likes and dislikes. Building a relationship with someone who has the same hobbies or likes as you will increase the chances of feeling comfortable enough to let someone into your comfort zone. Keep in mind that we all have differences. Embrace your differences and grow from them.

A positive relationship, whether romantic or platonic, will improve mental health, as well as social skills. Agape love is love unconditional. This type of love can live much longer than infatuation. Accepting differences, as well as similarities, increase the chances of growing a relationship into something that will stand the test of time.
