Here is a very easy project for kids of varied abilities to try, including those with disabilities, with lots of help and encouragement from someone that can use scissors.
A bit of background on the bookmark first, though: The flowers in the orange bookmark grow wild in Holland. They are called tuenisbloemen. These in particular are growing in the Dunes National Park along the North Sea and the north coast of The Netherlands.
Every region has certain wildflowers, but I'm glad here in Holland that we have so many large blossoms. Right alongside the meadows filled with these flowers are field after field of the every-famous tulip in pastel and bright colors.
Being a bright yellow I thought you'd like the light color for the Fall season here in the Northern Hemisphere. These are growing at the 52nd degree latitude.
To use, just print this page as many times as needed for multiple bookmarks and have the kids carefully cut out the bookmarks around the outside edges.
Or, print them out using the printer friendly button at the foot of the page, and then do the cutting out. Be sure that kids are using blunt tip scissors so there are no accidents and if they are struggling, help them out.
I think holiday projects should be fun and not just for academic purposes. After all, it is important to feel joy while learning so kids will want to keep learning!
You could also laminate the image after cutting it out and then you'll have a much longer lasting bookmark. Each of the bookmarks is 200 pixels wide and 800 pixels long, which translates to 2 inches by 8 inches.
If you have a printer that can accept cardstock or construction paper, that will make a sturdy bookmark to use time and again. And when your bookmark wears out just print out another copy.
Of course, they will look best using a color printer, either ink jet or laser printer.
