One of the basic traits we need to learn growing up and living successfully in society is how to be caring. Kids of most abilities can learn caring to a certain degree.
Caring means thinking and then acting for the good of someone or some cause. It is a combination of thought and action.
First we must learn how to care about our own welfare, before caring about others. This is because we have to learn what caring means in a really personal way.
Kids learn by modeling others' behavior, and those they are around the most become their primary teachers in how to live caring and happy lives. So, parents, family, teachers and friends are top role models.
I like Hillary Clinton's thought that it takes a village to raise a child.
Family and community both contribute to caring for kids, and teaching them how to live in society. Raising the next generation to be caring adults is the job of everyone in society.
Even if we don't have our own kids, we most likely have interaction in different ways with them, such as interacting in the store or in restaurants, vacation locations, public service jobs, schools, with the kids of friends and co-workers, our nieces and nephews, and so on.
Caring is a big plus for society
Being caring is a big plus in society and for our planet. It gets positive ideas put into action. On a small or large scale, however we can show kids we care - for them and for others - we are being good role models while benefiting the family of humanity.
When I hear that a rich person is donating a lot of money to relieve suffering from disease, my thoughts are uplifted and grateful that that person was raised to be a caring adult.
But these are just the people we hear about. We needn't be rich to be caring - the point is that every act of caring helps our kids by modeling, and helps the family of humanity at large.
We can turn any thought into a positive action by deciding to be caring rather than complaining. It is a flip of the switch to assume positive and caring thoughts rather than negative ones.
We can help all the kids we come in contact with to become caring adults by being models of caring ourselves!
