Parrot, by Paul Carter - Book Review

Parrot, by Paul Carter - Book Review
This book is not a typical bird care book or even a story about a bird. It is a very in-depth book that goes back into the history of parrots in literature, arts and as pets and continues on to the present day and beyond.

The book contains three chapters, titled “Parrotics”, “Parroternalia”, and Parrotology. Paul Carter lists many references throughout the book, so the list of references at the end is quite long. Parrot jokes have their own section where the full joke is given if he mentions the joke at all anywhere in the book.

There are several pictures in the book, including art and colour or black and white photographs with Paul Carter's comments or a quote from the artist or photographer on each one.

Paul Carter has included a timeline of the Parrot, going back to 65-70 years BC and up to a prediction for 2050.

It would be a good idea to plan on reading this book at a time when you have little or no distractions. I found myself having to re-read a paragraph or even a page if I was interrupted, but I am sure you will find this book as fascinating as I did.

Paul Carter is Professorial Research Fellow in the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning, University of Melbourne.

This book is part of a series of books by several authors on various animal species.

This book is available at Amazon.com and Amazon.ca
