Two Easy Halloween Recipes

Guest Author - Brandii Lacey

Lots of parents and kids are looking for Halloween recipes to make together. It seems that half want healthy recipes and the other half prefer the good old sweet kind. Here are examples of both that are perfect for cooking with your kids! Best of all, they can be prepared quickly and at the last minute. Enjoy!

Recipe # 1:

Butterscotch Jack O Lantern Pudding Pie Recipe

All you need is an imagination and these four ingredients:

- Jello Butterscotch Pudding Mix (found in bakery isle)

- Milk

- Pre-made Oreo Cookie Pie Crust (any pre made crust will do, but the chocolate crust looks great with the butterscotch filling)

- Mixed bag of Halloween candy (something with lots of different shapes and
sizes of candy works great)

Steps:

1. Follow instructions on the Jello box for making the Traditional Pudding Pie.

2. After pie sets, open the bag of mixed candy and go to town creating your “pumpkin face.”

Some ideas include:

Sprees, M & M’s, or Dots candy can be used for the eyes.

Green licorice for the stem at the top of the pie.

Candy corn is perfect for creating a “toothy” smile.

Let your kids imagination run wild as they take an ordinary pudding pie and turn it into a spooktacular delight!

Now, if you’ve had it with all the candy, here’s recipe #2:

Muffin Pumpkin Faces

Break out any box of muffin mix you have on hand. After you bake the muffins according to package directions, it’s muffin pumpkin face decorating time!

Ingredients:

- Muffin Mix (Corn, Blueberry, Cranberry, it doesn’t matter at all)

- Nuts

- Cranberries

- Raisons

- Pretzel sticks

- Cream Cheese (Optional)

Steps:

Place the nuts, cranberries, raisons, and pretzel sticks in an assembly style line on the table.

Let your kids take a muffin (or two) and make their way down the assembly line of ingredients.

Cranberries are perfect to create a smile (or frown). Nuts can be used to create the nose or eyes.

Pretzel sticks make for some funny looking pumpkin hair. My niece loved making her muffin pumpkin’s hair stand up straight by sticking five pretzel sticks at the top for the muffin.

Cream cheese is optional, but can be used as the first layer before the other ingredients. Add a few drops of food coloring to give it that special touch.

If you don’t have the above items on hand, just use whatever you have in your pantry.

I hope everyone has a safe, fun, and tasty Halloween!
