Recipes for Halloween Jiggly Body Parts
Just what is a Halloween BOO-ffet without a few scary body parts? Here are two scrumptious jelled salads that are molded to resemble gruesome brains, livers, stomachs, and/or hearts (not the valentine type of heart – the human body part type). Even though these salads look scary, they are delicious, and can be made ahead; they are also quick and easy to make.
Brain molds can be ordered from Amazon (click on links at the bottom of this article), or you can mold your salad in a bowl and make indentations to resemble a brain in the jelled salad with a skewer.

This recipe makes enough to fill three 2-cup brain molds. Black gel food coloring is available at restaurant supply stores and many craft stores.
Note: Although the lighting in this picture made my brain salad look almost black, the color was actually a dark gray. If you want yours a lighter gray, add an additional cup of whipped heavy cream.
2 3 oz. packages Berry Blue flavored gelatin
2 cups boiling water
1 16 oz. package frozen mixed berries
1 cup crushed pineapple, with juice
1 teaspoon black gel food coloring
2 cups heavy whipping cream, whipped to stiff peaks
Dissolve the gelatin in the boiling water, stirring until no sugar crystals remain.
Place the berries in the food processor and pulse, scraping the sides occasionally, until the berries are very fine; stir in the pineapple and mix with the gelatin. Stir in the black food coloring and place in the refrigerator (or the freezer if you're in a hurry) until syrupy and beginning to set; fold in the whipped cream. Spray the inside of the mold or bowl with non-stick spray and pour the gelatin mixture into the molds. Refrigerate 3-4 hours until set.
To unmold, place the molds in a bowl of hot water; let sit a minute or two, then place a plate on top of the mold and invert. The salad will fall onto the plate.

I like to prepare this salad in my liver mold; it looks really scary in the stomach and heart molds too. If using the heart mold, you may want to add some red paste food coloring to the mixture to make it look more real.
6 Servings
1 3 oz. package raspberry gelatin
1 cup boiling water
8 ounces frozen strawberries, without sugar
1/2 cup cottage cheese
1/2 cup crushed pineapple, with juice
Dissolve the raspberry gelatin in the boiling water.
Place the strawberries, cottage cheese, and pineapple in the food processor. Pulse until the strawberries are finely chopped and the mixture is smooth; mix into the gelatin mixture. Pour the mixture into two 2-cup molds that have been sprayed with non-stick spray, and chill until set.
To unmold, set the mold in a bowl of hot water for a minute or two, place an inverted serving plate over the mold, and turn right side up; the gelatin will fall out onto the serving platter.
