Jesus is Known by These Names
Jesus has many names in Scripture.
In Isaiah 9:6 He is called:
  • Wonderful Counselor
    He is the One who gives the right advice.
  • Mighty God
    He is God Himself
  • Prince of Peace
    His government is one of justice and peace.


In Matthew 1:23 He is Immanuel, which means God with us.
In Luke 1:32, the angel who announced His upcoming birth said He would be called Son of the Most High.

In Acts 5:31 He is called Prince and Savior

What do you call Him?

Mary, “Savior! Love! Redeemer and Healer.”
In the Book of John, Jesus describes Himself
  • Son of Man - 6:27
    It emphasized His humanity but the way He used it, it was a claim to divinity.
  • Bread of Life - 6:35
    His life-giving role. The only source of eternal life
  • Light of the world - 8:12
    Light is a symbol of spiritual truth.
  • Gate for the sheep - 10:7
    The only way to God's kingdom
  • Good Shepherd - 10:11
    This focuses on Jesus' love and guidance and speaks of Old Testament prophecies
  • The Resurrection and the Life - 11:25
    He is the source of life and the power over death
  • The Way and the Truth and the Life - 14:6
    The method, the message and the meaning for all people. This was His purpose for coming to earth.
  • The Vine - 15:1
    We are the branches. The branches gain life from the vine and cannot live apart from it.

What do you call Him?

Fred, “The greatest. #1 in my life! “My friend.”
Lois, “Confidant.”

Jesus is many things to many people.
