Don't Forget to Dream Book Review

The subtitle of the book gives a nice description of its contents.
“Pursuing a Life That Matters - Shaped by the Heart of God”

At 18, author Tim Dowdy found himself in a place that so many teens and young adults find themselves today – with no clue what they are going to do with their life. Their adolescent dreams of a future in basketball – or football – or acting - or whatever glamorous career was their ambition, have dimmed in the cold light of reality. Thinking of spending the rest of their life working in a comfortable and safe but not so glamorous job is an excitement killer.

Tim prayed a simple and to the point prayer, asking God to let him know what he was supposed to do with his life and sure enough, that evening Billy Graham told him – through the television – that God had a plan for his life and that he needed to live according to that plan. After turning the television off Tim was still wondering what that plan was when he had a revelation that he describes as an explosion in his heart. God answered his prayer, impressing on him what he was to do. His life mission was to preach God’s word.

I don’t doubt that Mr. Dowdy did indeed have this life-changing experience but many us will never experience anything quite so certain. That’s why I think his book is valuable for teens and young adults looking toward the future and for many not-so-young adults who are still looking for a life mission. He lays out the guidance he received from God. It is about 165 pages of simple direction that is easy to read and flows with anecdotes from Tim’s experiences.
The acrostic and keyword in the title of the book outline the five major areas of finding God’s plan.
  • D-ecisions
  • R-elationships
  • E-nthusiasm
  • M-ission
Each section is broken down into three chapters labeled Remember, Remind and Resolve.

Dont Forget to Dream:
Pursuing a Life That Matters Shaped by the Heart of God

Tim Dowdy found God’s plan for his life and his passion. He is senior pastor of Eagle’s Landing First Baptist Church in McDonough, Georgia where the congregation has grown from thirty-nine members to more than four thousand in the past seventeen years.

“Don’t Forget to Dream” is coauthored with Tim Luke, adult pastor at the same church. Mr. Luke also coauthored “LifeStories” written with Mark Hall of Casting Crowns. Tim served as editor of “In Touch” magazine and worked as a sportswriter for ten years. His first book was the souvenir book “Atlanta Braves: 1995 World Champions.”
