Yummy, Eight Favorite Fairy TalesLucy Cousins writes Yummy, Eight Favorite Fairy Tales. As the name infers, it is a collection Lucy Cousins’ eight favorite. The picture book is oversize(10 ½ by 11 ½) and brimming with delightful childhood stories. Yummy, Eight Favorite Fairy Tales has over hundred-twenty pages in the review copy. The eight fairy tales are Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, The Enormous Turnip, Henny Penny, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Little Red Hen, The Three Little Pigs, and The Musicians of Bremen. Lucy Cousins retells the stories for the modern infant, toddler, preschool and elementary school kid. They love the famous characters who populate the pages and to listen to their adventures. The humor, drama and silly fun in the juvenile fairy tales capture their imagination. Lucy Cousins illustrates Yummy, Eight Favorite Fairy Tales, also. Readers familiar with the Maisy Books by the same illustrator/author will recognize her hand lettering and painting style. She writes words with a paint brush(the text is in print). She uses bright colors in her paintings and outlines the characters and objects in black. The pages pop from the books and draw children’s eyes. Look below and view Yummy, Eight Favorite Fairy Tales for an example of her hand lettering and painting style. See how she captures the characters’ emotions in the facial expressions. The wolf’s reflect his hungry, greedy desires. Red Riding Hood’s face displays her feelings of shock and horror. Fairy tales are great in the nursery and the home and school libraries. Lucy Cousin’s colorful tales of eight are wonderful entertainment at bedtime or circle time. In other words, the picture book is yummy. Children need a regular routine. A set bedtime and place to sleep are part of the daily routine. Read a bedtime story as part of the nightly ritual. Read quiet, soothing books to children in their warm, comfortable bed. This allows a child to associate reading with comfort and security. The association will continue a lifetime.
