Men Fragrances and Their Unusual Scents

Men Fragrances and Their Unusual Scents
Classifying perfumes is important for both the perfume industry and the customers that they are being sold to. This is because it makes identifying the notes, characters and ingredients in fragrances much easier. The groupings also make it easier to determine what types of perfume works best with your body chemistry.

When it comes to fragrances for men, there are several categories that have been created. Their names are often indicative of their characteristics. For example, Green perfumes smell like grass and hay and are made more appealing by light fruity notes or other herbaceous notes like galbanum, lavender, rosemary, and pine.

Another one of these categories is the chypre, which is characterized by outdoor type fragrance notes and hints of bergamot, patchouli, oakmoss, and labdanum.  This is a popular group that has subtle differences. The subcategories are based on the other ingredients added to it. For example, it can either be classified as fruity or floral.

Another popular category of fragrances for men is citrus. As the name implies, it is sharp and tangy because it contains plenty of fresh citrus notes. A famous example of a citrus scent is the classic Tommy by Tommy Hilfiger.

Subcategories of the citrus fragrance are known as spicy citrus, aromatic citrus, woody citrus, floral woody citrus, and floral chypre citrus.

Fougère is a category of fragrance that is typically characterized by having sharp woody top notes that are based on coumarin, lavender, and oakmoss. This category can be further subdivided into aromatic, fruity, spicy, and amber fougère.

Not all men prefer the outdoorsy, heavy smell. As a result, another category for the perfumes of men is the fresh or aquatic. This type of fragrance is known for using fresh and clean notes that can be accented by fruity, green and light floral notes. A lot of unisex perfumes are made in this style because the lightness of the scent is also appropriate for women.

Contrary to this is the leather category, which is almost exclusively for men. They make use of distinctive deep notes of honey, tobacco, wood, and amber to hint at the smell of leather.  Depending on the added ingredients, leather perfumes can either smell like floral or tobacco leather.

Other categories of fragrances are orientals, spicy and woody. Ultimately, classifications help in understanding perfumes and the many choices available.
