How To Use Fragrance In Your Home

How To Use Fragrance In Your Home
We all want our homes to look good but wouldn’t it be even nicer if it smells good, too? There's so much advice out there on decorating your home but not a lot of tips on how to use fragrance in your home. This is probably because not all homeowners have thought about making their homes fragrant. If you like the idea, though, you’re in for a pleasant surprise. Going home to a nice-smelling house is certainly a delight.

Looking to scent your home with a beautiful fragrance? You first need to find the right scent. This part is just like choosing your own signature perfume. It’s very subjective because it has to work with the smells that already exist in your home just like how a certain fragrance works with your body’s chemistry. So, ask yourself, what are the smells in my home?

The answers to the question above could include pet odors, cleaning products, smell of laundry, or the smell of foods you cook. If you cook with a lot of curry or with a lot of garlic, you can expect the smells of these ingredients to linger around your house. Also, if you smoke indoors, cigarette smell is another odor you'll want to deal with.

After identifying your home’s main scents or odors, you can then start figuring out how to use fragrance in your home.

First of all, deal with the unpleasant odors. Don’t just mask them with fragrant candles or incense. That would probably make the odors worse. Neutralize pet odors, cigarette smoke and other offensive smells with fresheners or odor-eliminating products which include sprays, reed diffusers and candles.

With the bad smells gone, the fun part begins as you choose which fragrance to use in your home. Here are some ideas:

• Earthy scents like grass are not only pleasant smells but can make a room feel cooler. These fragrances are great if you live somewhere with a warm climate.

• Aquatic scents like ocean scents have a calming effect that is also rejuvenating. The idea of water tends to be refreshing. These are perfect scents for city dwellers who would like to bring the smells of the ocean closer to their home.

• Floral fragrances give a pleasant impression because flowers are associated with affection. Some popular scents include lilac and jasmine.

• Woody scents like cedar wood and evergreen evoke warmth. Try them if you want to make a room feel extra cozy.

Hopefully, with the tips above, choosing and using the right fragrances for your home will be easier. Remember to consider the smells in your home and go with your personal scent favorites.

Home décor stores and fragrance companies come out with sprays, candles, incense, potpourri and other products with new scents every season so your home can smell great all year. What will your new scent be for your home?
