Folklore has it that the sacred smell of sandalwood oil has played an integral part in Indian religion and culture for centuries. In India you will find furniture and temples made from the heartwood of sandalwood trees. Why? Because it could resist the attack of insects.

What does all of this have to do with scents, fragrance and perfumes? In perfumery Sandalwood oils have earned the reputation as an aphrodisiac. It’s known to have a sultry smell with an erotic quality.

Men have worn sandalwood oils to elicit the desired responses from women. The Polynesians added sandalwood to massage oils.

In the beauty industry sandalwood oil nourishes dry, dehydrated and mature skin. It smoothes and softens lines and wrinkles. It can balance oily or dry skin and benefits any skin type or condition.

Sandalwood oil helps clear acne and blemishes by regulating the oil production and fighting bacteria.

In perfumery Sandalwood oil is used as a base oil for grounding. It mixes well with Rose, Ylang-Ylang, Jasmine, Lemon, Verbena and Frankincense.

7 drops Sandalwood
2 drops orange

Add this mixture to 2 teaspoons of base-Multiply based on desired amount

3 drops Jasmine
2 drops Orange
1 drop Sandalwood

Add this mixture to 2 teaspoons of base-Multiply based on desired amount

Sandalwood Massage Oil

* 8-10 teaspoons almond oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil or grapeseed oil
* 6 drops of sandalwood essential oil
* 2 drops lavender essential oil
* 2 drops rosewood essential oil
* 2 drops rose essential oil

Blend ingredients well.

You decide what you will call these blends. Allow your imagination to determine the mood and feel of the oil blends.

When you start small with your blends it allows you to determine whether or not you like what you’ve started. It also allows you to test in small batches.

These recipes have been created using essential oils not fragrance oils. Essential oils give you the healing properties of the plants, where as fragrance oils are dealing strictly with the scent of the oil.

Sandalwood is one of the oldest and most often used essential oils. Whether it’s incense in a church, scenting a massage oil or perfume blend, Sandalwood will always present a lasting memory for the wearer or recipient of its aroma.
