July 14 2010 Anime Newsletter

Welcome to the July 14th edition of the BellaOnline Anime newsletter!

Here are the headlines to come out of the anime industry since the last newsletter:

*Crunchyroll has announced that they will be releasing anime through downloads on Microsoft's Zune Marketplace. The videos available at the Zune Marketplace can be played back on Windows-based personal computers, Xbox 360 game consoles, and Zune HD mobile devices. Crunchyroll's initial offerings include The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Yoku Wakaru Gendai Maho, and Giant Killing.

*Crunchyroll has announced that the website will "exclusively" stream the Strike Witches 2 anime series within one day of each episode's premiere. Crunchyroll's streaming began on Wednesday, July 7, at 4:00 p.m. PDT. The simulcast will stream to Premium Subscription members in high definition on the same day as the Japanese broadcast, and will be available for free in standard definition one week later. The simulcast will be available in the United States and the rest of North America, South America, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, the Middle East, and Africa.

*Crunchyroll announced they will launch a simulcast of the anime series, Asobi ni Ikuyo: Bombshells From the Sky. The simulcast will be available worldwide, except in Japan, Korea, and Mongolia. The series is an adaptation of a light novel series about an ordinary high school boy that meets an alien catgirl who needs protection from a mysterious government agency.

There are topics in the anime forum for these news stories. If you'd like to join in on the discussion, there's a link to the forum later in the newsletter. You need to have a BellaOnline forum account in order to post, but signing up for a forum account is free.

Since the last newsletter, I made a change to the subject areas for the Anime site. I changed the "Anime Book and Soundtrack Reviews" section to simply "Anime Book Reviews." The soundtracks that had been included in this section are now included in other sections of the site. You can now find the reviews of Chobits 001 and 002, Eufonius' "Idea" single, the Noein: To Your Other Self soundtracks, Solua's "Yoake no Ashioto" single, and The Animatrix soundtrack in the "Current Anime" section of the site. The Voltron soundtrack was moved to the "Classic Anime" section of the Anime site. Daft Punk's Discovery album was moved to the "Space Battleship Yamato and Related" section of the site (since this is where the review for Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem is located).

This week, I posted two new articles to the Anime site. The first is an overview article for the anime series, Golgo 13. The second is a review of Naruto the Movie 2: Legend of the Stone of Gelel. I also added words from Golgo 13 to the list for the Anime word games on the site.

Thank you for your support of the BellaOnline Anime site, newsletter, and forum. Be sure to watch your inbox next Wednesday for the July 21st edition of the BellaOnline Anime newsletter.
