New Owners of Mill Creek

New Owners of Mill Creek
The deal was finished on Monday and we now have new owners of the Mill Creek Country Club and they are getting their corporation to work. They have the title of MCCC LLC and have announced their officers. Billy Helm is President with Richard Castle as Secretary and Armando Lenis as Vice President. I noticed in the write up in the Salado Village Voice there was no mention of a Treasure. I am sure that they have worked that out as to who will be taking in the dues and who will be writing the checks. The article stated that they paid Morris Foster $1.75 million and the deal was done.

In this article Mr. Helm told Tim Fleischer Editor in Chief of the Village Voice that they plan to renovate the Pro Shop and the Grill. They want to make this area family friendly for members and visitors to the golf course. The corporation will be concentrating on getting a continual 18 holes ready for play. Next year they will concentrate on renovating the golf holes that were damaged with the flood. I know there is a water problem that needs to be fixed plus draining and repair the pond that is used for watering the golf course. It has filled with silt plus developed a leak so needs a new liner once they dredge out the pond.

It was noted in this article that the corporation wants to return the 27 hole golf course to the original Robert Trent Jones Jr. design. It will be wonderful to have the golf holes that were damaged in the flood as they were the most scenic part of the golf course. It will be great to be able to play those golf holes again. We all remember what it was like when all 27 holes were in play, it should bring more visitors back to Mill Creek.

The idea they had for people to get involved with this plan is offering sponsorship of golf holes. When I first heard this I called immediately as I want to continue to sponsoring the Heart of Texas #3 golf hole. I had been sponsoring this hole with a Memorial to my husband Bill Meinen who loved this golf course. I also live on this great golf hole so made sure I got my offer in early. I now have been contacted to write the check so have turned this in with the engraving to read “Sponsored by The Meinen Family”.

Another offer they are making to the businesses in Salado that for $1,500 they can have their name and logo on one of the flags on each of the 27 holes. This is an excellent idea for ways to raise money as working capital for the course. After they spent $1.75 million we all need to do our share to help make this golf course successful again. Also for those donations to repair and renovate the golf course there will be a master plaque to hold all the name of those involved.

I wish this corporation all the success in bringing back the Mill Creek Golf Course and will be working with them in any way I can/ Matt has told me that we can start the beginner women’s golf lessons now that the course is in new hands. I will write about this as soon as we get this organized and sent out to the members. Better days are ahead with the new owners of Mill Creek and hopefully we all will work together to make it happen.
