Our Member/Guest Event

Our Member/Guest Event
When men decide to put on a special tournament they outshine the women on all levels. They know how to make a lavish affair and are not afraid to charge a good price and will always get a full attendance. Our Mill Creek Men’s Golf Association did just that this past weekend. They had all their plans in place for six weeks and urged their members to join up with their guest and sign up in two separate groups.

For many weeks they had signs, banners and prizes displayed to entice the members to join in the fun. The prizes were amazing as first and second groups had a chance to sign up and win a 32” HD Televisions in a drawing for each winner. There also was a raffle for everybody to take their chances on a large 42” HD Television. Another big prize was an outdoor massive grill and cook stations which was really a wonderful prize. Along with all these prizes were individual drawings for the guest and members to win. They collected a great array of prizes from business people in the area. All this did make for a large Member/Guest tournament and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Our LGA members were given a substantial gift for helping with this tournament. One of my jobs was to help with the registration table and see that every member and guest signed in for the free drawings. They also needed to check in plus let us know if they would be staying for the Steak BBQ dinner the first night. We also sold mulligans to be used each day. Plus we needed to hand out the ditty bags which we help fill with a golf towel, golf hat, and tee shirt. Our LGA also took turns of sitting on separate golf holes with the hole-in-one prizes to observe is any one made a hole-in-one so it could be officially counted.

The Pro Shop had made out all the score cards, with posters showing all the teams in each of their separate flights from Championship to first, second and third flights. They started off with tee times the first day so we had plenty of time to check in each team. The second day of play was a shot gun start with holes assigned for each team according to how they shot the first day. There was a Continental breakfast table arranged with juices, fruit tray, rolls and coffee prepared by the club grill each day. Free Bloody Marys were offered but few takers before they went out to play their round. Drinks of margaritas, beer, water and soft drinks were available for all who wished to participate during each tournament day.

The club grill also prepared for the outdoor Steak BBQ dinner which was served on the new outdoor stone patio. At 4:30 they were entertained by an Elvis performance on the patio before the steak dinners which were served from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. At 6:00 p.m. drawings for members who signed-up of the HD TV’s, free golf weekend by Stagecoach Properties for the guest, including many other door prizes were awarded.

On Sunday with a shotgun start and continued free drinks all day, the tournament was blessed with two beautiful days of golf. At 2:00 p.m. after play was completed and winners were determined and the awards were announced in each flight. Prizes were awarded for any hole-in-one (there were none), closest to the pin winners and the final drawing for the raffled 42 HD TV plus many other remaining door prizes. The committee of the MGA Mill Creek Member/Guest tournament thanks all those who helped plus all participants and winners.

This was a well planned out tournament and done in grand style with great prizes to entice the members to join in the fun. I only hope our women can plan for big events to help our club grow and enjoy good competition. It was good to help out with such a tournament as it takes lots of cooperation to make it successful.
