As the infants grow older, use the bright colors to teach them to recognize colors. Ask them what color is Horton? What color is the grass? What color is the flower? Later, count together the number of animals, flowers, trees and so forth on a page. Board book usage in this manner helps stretch funds and expand the child’s knowledge, thus preparing them for reading and mathematics.

Children need a regular routine. A set bedtime and place to sleep are part of the daily routine. Read a bedtime story as part of the nightly ritual. Read quiet, soothing books to children in their warm, comfortable bed. This allows a child to associate reading with comfort and security. The association will continue a lifetime.
