SOPHIE SCHOLL AND THE WHITE ROSE

Sophie Scholl was 21, a leader of The White Rose, a non-violent resistance group of Munich University students, and one of many Germans who did not support the Nazi regime.

In February 1943 she was executed for treason, together with her brother Hans and their friend Christoph Probst. They were 'ordinary' young people, a flawed group of friends whose crime had been to stand by their beliefs, and try in a non-confrontational way to bring attention, and an end, to crimes against humanity.

SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL: The political history of all nations has hardly ever produced anything greater and nobler than the opposition which existed in Germany. As long as they were alive, they were invisible to us, because they had to put on masks. But their deaths brought their resistance to light.
