Top Woman Beer Rater in the USA - hotstuff
Women who love beer are still in the quiet minority. These roots are silently growing, however, spreading out like magma beneath a dormant volcano, ready to explode in a climax that will draw other women to beer as quickly as they were drawn to wine two decades ago.

Beer Fox Laugh of the Week:

An Amish boy and his father were visiting a mall.  They were amazed by almost everything they saw, but especially by two shiny, silver walls that could move apart and back together again.  The boy asked his father, "What is this, Father?" The father (never having seen an elevator) responded, "Son, I have never seen anything like this in my life, I don't know what it is."

While the boy and his father were watching wide-eyed, an old lady in a wheel chair rolled up to the moving walls and pressed a button.  The walls opened and the lady rolled between them into a small room.  The walls closed and the boy and his father watched small circles of lights with numbers above the walls light up.  They continued to watch the circles light up in the reverse direction.

The walls opened up again and a beautiful 24-year-old woman stepped out. The father said to his son, "Go get your mother."

Beer News:

"The Brewmaster's Castle" is the nickname bestowed upon America's most intact late-Victorian house, The Christian Heurich House Museum, affectionately referred to as the Heurich Mansion.

This impressive thirty-one room home is a dignified treasure, built in the Richardsonian Romanesque Style of architecture. It is a Category Two Landmark on the National Register of Historic Places, and boasts 15 fireplaces, none of which were ever used, to ensure the absolute safety of the home against fire.

When he reached the ripe old age of 102, Christian Heurich held the distinguished honor of being renowned as the world's oldest brewer, managing the brewing business until his death in 1945. Through his visionary genius, he became the most successful and largest brewer in Washington, DC within the short span of 10 years. Between 1894-1895 he built a third brewery, the first fireproof brewery in the nation, in the Foggy Bottom section of the city.

The Brewmaster's Castle is owned by the public through the Heurich House Foundation and has been kept open for civic tours and events; however, due to budget troubles, the Castle is in danger of exiting its role in the public domain.

The Friends of the Castle organization organized a meeting  at The 28th, to discuss strategies for protecting this historic landmark. For more information, updates, or to get involved, contact Gary F. Heurich atgfheurich@foggybottom.com.

Craft Brew of the Week Award:

Fuller's Vintage Ale - Fuller, Smith & Turner PLC, Chiswick, London, UK
Style:  Old Ale

Crystalline, deep-amber bronze body sparkles intensely, while a dense, creamy head of light-tan lays slathered, like loosely-whipped egg whites, over the gleaming body below.  Aromas are of malt, sherry, floral hops and caramel.  Flavors explode in a bouquet of complexity - chocolate, dark fruits, sherry and toffee, accented by English hops.  Creaminess washes thick in the mouth, while bitter hops and alcohol race in a balanced medley for the finish-line.

Cheers!
