Volcanoes - Fire and Ice
A volcano can produce a fiery sky with ash and deadly gases. The biggest one on Earth is Mauna Loa, but it's dwarfed by Olympus Mons on Mars which is three times the height of Everest. There are many volcanoes in the Solar System, including ice volcanoes.

And here is a new Cassini picture of Enceladus. http://www.ciclops.org/view_media/35432/Hiding_Little_Brother You can see the cold eruptions in the southern hemisphere. The teensy moon peeking over the northern shoulder of Enceladus is Epimetheus.

Herschel was the first person in history to discover a previously unknown planet. It was the one we know as Uranus, the elder god who was the father of Saturn. With his new celebrity status he was able to give up the day job (musician) and become a fulltime astronomer - and he used that time to revolutionise astronomy. His lifetime lasted within a few months of the time it takes Uranus to orbit the Sun once, around 84 years.

Part of William's epitaph reads "He broke through the barrier of the heavens."
