European Capital of Culture, Ruhr 2010

‘Europe’ has been an entity for so long now it is easy to forget that it is in fact a mixture of countries with very different cultures and histories.

Germany’s Ruhr Valley was one of 2010’s European Capitals of Culture.
A prized tribute granted more for plans the chosen city has to honour and emphasis European cultures, and the links that combine them, during its year of celebration, than for the size or influence of the city itself.
