Court Avenue Brewing Remembers Michael Jackson

The warm chestnut browns of the bar merge warmly with the brick walls and historic feel of our surroundings and I think how charmed beer Hunter Michael Jackson would have been by this haven for malt.

Michael Jackson Collection at Oxford Brookes

He was just a child when he left school to pursue a career as a journalist. He had, of course, fulfilled all the requirements of a British education, so at the mature age of sixteen, Michael Jackson pounded the pavements of competition that would eventually lead to Fleet Street.

We are sensory creatures. We are constantly tuned-in to those things that stimulate our senses. The most successful brewers understand the power of kinesthetic appeal, and strive to pique the senses on all levels.

Beer Fox Tip of the Week:

If you are a Celiac in search of Gluten-Free Beer when you are out for dinner, you can, of course, BYOB. One step better is to speak with the manager about the broad range of Gluten-Free or Sorghum Beers on the market. You may wish to "clue-in" the wait staff, too. If you are a regular, the manager will be much more open to accommodating your wishes because it guarantees the beer will not stretch beyond the freshness date.

Restaurants that already offer Gluten-Free menus are the most receptive to your request. Many local restaurants offer GF menus, but so do some of the larger chains like Uno Chicago Grill, Outback, and Carrabbas. My local Iron Hill Restaurant and Brewery offers an extensive Gluten Free menu, but no GF beer (yet.) The ones that have GF menus are generally trustworthy, and will take extra measures to ensure that the environment is free of wheat, barley, rye, and other gluten-rich grains, is sanitized properly, and that they change gloves during preparation.

Stay away from Applebees, Red Lobster, Texas Roadhouse, and Olive Garden, unless you have found one that is very forward-thinking and well-educated about GF food preparation.

Beer Fox Laugh of the Week:

As migration approached, two elderly vultures doubted they could make the trip south, so they decided to go by airplane.

When they checked their baggage, the attendant noticed that they were carrying two dead raccoons. "Do you wish to check the raccoons through as luggage?" she asked.

"No, thanks," replied the vultures. "They're carrion."

BeerNews:

Marty Jones reports that Old Chub Scottish Style Ale, brewed by Oskar Blues Restaurant and Brewery in Lyons, Colorado has been spotlighted on the food network in their "Next Food Network Star" show. In a segment on Beer Can Chicken, Finalist Adam Gertler of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, used the premium beer in full frontal exposure. The message here is: Great gourmet recipes require the selection of a great beer for maximum pleasuring of the taste buds.

Craft Beer of the Week Award

Ondineke Oilsjtersen Tripel - KleinBrouwerij De Glazen Toren, Erpe-Mere, Belgium
Style: Belgian Tripel, 8.5% ABV

Anticipation rises as you unwrap this treasure from the crinkly tissue that announces it as something special. Aromas of grapes, apple, pear and spices dress the air, as it pours, cloudy orange with a creamy, off-white head. Clean and effervescent on the tongue, with gentle hops and pepper. Alcohol hides well, so take care with this naughty girl.

Cheers!
