March 12 2010 Horror Movies Newsletter

Hey horror movie fans, hope you're all having an amazing day/or night & that you've seen some good horror movies lately. Here's the latest article from the Horror Movies site at BellaOnline.com.

The Final Girl in Horror Film
The Final Girl is basically the surviving girl, or woman, in a slasher or horror movie. This can say a lot from a feminist’s point of view about not only what does the final girl portray? But also, what does the male audience take away from watching these films and identifying with these heroines?

I've had a lot of fun looking into 'The Final Girl' theory - just think about it, in nearly every horror movie, or slasher film - there is always a strong female hero that goes all out to stop the bad guy. This is female empowerment at it's best, and we're witnessing it here in the horror genre. A genre a lot of critics make out to be very masculine. So what does it say, not only about women horror fans, but male horror fans that identify with the female lead? It's an interesting theory, and it links up nicely to my Slasher Movie Rules article, which you can check out too. Thanks for signing up to the newsletter and I hope you all stay with me while I look into new aspects of horror every week :)
