In writing my latest article, I learned that about 10% of anorexics, 20% of bulimics, and half of binge eaters are males. They see it as a "female problem" and are especially ashamed to struggle with it. This makes treatment
more difficult, since honesty and vulnerablity are paramount to successfully coping with an eating disorder.

Gay men are particularly apt to struggle with body image, probably because of society's expectation that they be neat, slim, and sophisticated. This surprised me, but I guess it seems logical when you think about it. I explore this concept a little more in the article:
