For the pre-history farming community which created Germany's Goseck Circle a solstice was significant as a season's important midway point and something to celebrate, and thousands of years later from Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and Saturnalia to Midsummer and Litha, the celebrations of many faiths and cultures are held around the winter and summer solstices.
A Prehistoric Solar Observatory, The Goseck Circle, designed 7,000 years ago to help with the planning of farm work and to track solstices, is this weeks subject.
