GERMAN GUMMI BEARS, THE CULT CANDY

Gummy Bears, who began their life in 1922 as fruit gummi "Dancing Bears" in a small confectionery company in Germany, with a form that was based on real dancing bears and the Teddy Bear.

Now it is a cult candy, not only for children but also "grown-ups", and has been made into couture gowns, inspired by Alexander McQueen's Spring/Summer 2008 collection La Dame Bleue, is a popular children's party snack "Hedgehog" and is a vital ingredient in certain Vodka cocktails.

Albert Einstein loved them "just as they are", as does the former Kate Middleton, aka the wife of Prince William and a future British Queen.

And this week's "Word of the Week", is one quite a few competitors at 2012's London Olympics will either have enjoyed, are enjoying or with luck it lies in their future.
