Trigun 6 - Lost July
Guest Author - The Futile Existence

Vash gives up his reward money for the Nebraska Family to the town that was trying to kill them, so they could repair their plant. Meryl is a bit grumpy about Vash being the Stampede and walks around telling people to stay away from him - even though people are offering him free drinks and such.

Suddenly a sand steamer arrives - everyone's happy. It's like a big train. Everyone in town tries to sell them merchandise. Lots of plant engineers show up, plus a beautiful woman in purple. Meanwhile, Vash is pouring Wild Turkey on the plant and says "You were just tired." The purple woman arrives. She says Vash is wanted for the murder of Colonel Vasquez and for random other damage. Vash offers marriage immediately. She's Elizabeth, chief engineer.

She asks, what are plants? Vash responds, "aren't they lost technology from over 100 years ago?" She agrees and says she has a special job for him. Meanwhile, M and M are looking around the marketplace for Vash. There's the cat in a can! Meryl is "twenty-something" and Vash and Elizabeth show up - Elizabeth calls him "Spot" and treats him like a slave.

Vash goes into his room and an assassin attacks. Elizabeth looks out and says Vash was in her room so the assassin was meant for her. She says Elizabeth knows about lost technology - so that's why they tried to kill her. Meryl tries to keep Vash out of the plant in case of trouble, but the plant goes out of control. Vash and Elizabeth head into Section 3 and the assassin is back. Vash shoots off his blades.

Elizabeth says she'll have to beat Vash herself and locks him in. She wants him to die for what he did on Stardate 0-1-04 July 21st 2:06pm. He destroyed her hometown. 1.4 million people were homeless. She was a tiny kid, age 3 - just how old is Vash if they look the same age now??

The plant goes into overload. Elizabeth says Vash decided to stay behind, but Meryl goes in after him. Vash is trying to keep the plant from exploding. The townsfolk all stand and watch - suddenly it starts working properly. Vash walks out. Elizabeth faces him - and he apologizes for not dying, and says he couldn't allow all in the city to be destroyed. He can't remember her town, only the city in a debris state.

Elizabeth wants to kill him anyway, but is sad and can't kill him. She realizes that Vash was the one who comforted her after the town fell.
