Junie B. Jones - Sneaky, Peeky Spying

Guest Author - Taisha Turner

Barbara Park is the author of Junie B. Jones and some Sneaky, Peeky Spying. Junie B Jones is a popular fictional character in the Junie B. Jones series for children. This humorous juvenile fiction is a hit with young readers.

Junie B. Jones considers herself a very good spier. She spies on Grandpa Miller from the bathroom hamper. Her unexpected loud voice sends the elderly man running from the room. Now, her new mission is to spy on her kindergarten teacher. Miss One-Track-Mind devises devious ways to visit the teacherís home. Fortunately, she is unsuccessful. However, Junie B. Jones on a spy mission in the grocery store witnesses the teacher doing a no-no! Will Junie B. Jones keep the secret? Read and laugh simultaneously for the answer.

Junie B. Jones is the hero of the Junie B. Jones first reader series. The story book is for elementary children making the transition from picture books to chapter books. The sixty-six page adventure book has eight chapters. That is an average of eight pages including Denise Brunkusí illustrations per chapter.

Barbara Park does a great job of writing a humorous story. Many adults consider Junie B. Jones a brat. The five-year-oldís logic and outlook on the world are a bit different. However, what is exciting and funny about a demure five-year-old girl? Early elementary kids understand her and love her adventures. Junie B. Jones and some Sneaky, Peeky Spying will delight them.

Children need a regular routine. A set bedtime and place to sleep are part of the daily routine. Read a bedtime story as part of the nightly ritual. Read quiet, soothing books to children in their warm, comfortable bed. This allows a child to associate reading with comfort and security. The association will continue a lifetime.
