Just Me and my Mom is by Mercer Mayer. It is a picture book in his popular Little Critter series. In this story book, Critter recounts his day in the city with his mother.
Critter and his Mom take the train into the city. When the conductor comes to punch the tickets, he discovers he lost them. The mother buys another pair.
The mother and son arrive in the big city. There are people everywhere. Tall buildings loom over the pair. Automobiles and trucks are bumper to bumper. Critters decides to take her hand to soothe her fears.
The day is a busy one for the loving mother and child. This is their day. There are no Dad, grandparents, siblings or friends. It is Just Me and my Mom.”
They visit the Museum of Natural History, Aquarium and Art Museum. Little Critter, true to form, has several mishaps in each place. They are unable to eat in the posh restaurant due to Critter’s frog making an appearance. Instead, they have hot dogs from a vendor’s cart. A critter is happy with the arrangement.
He is not so happy a little later. Mom takes him to a department store. She buys a new suit for him. He does not like the measurements taken for alterations, especially the stick pins. Yet, he does like the toy department.
Critter and his mother return to the train station in a taxi. Mom holds the return train tickets. On the train, Critter leans against his mother as she reads a story book.
Just Me and my Mom details a day Critter will remember his entire life. Any future visits to the Museum of Natural History. Aquarium and Art Museum will recall the day spent with his Mom and their special love.
Read Mercer Mayer’s picture book with a little Critter. The child will remember with fondness the time spent reading Just Me and my Mom. Another good time to read the book is after an outing to the Zoological Park, Art Museum or any other place in the community. Create special memories to last a lifetime.
This juvenile picture book for ages 4-8 is nice for Mother’s Day. Read it after returning from Mother’s Day dinner. Leave the pet at home.
