Trigun 13 - Vash the Stampede
Guest Author - The Futile Existence

This episode starts right where the last one left off. The assassin claims he doesn't know who hired him - just a guy claiming to be his father. Meryl writes a report, saying that she's confused why all this trouble follows Vash around. She thinks back to when they got the orders to find Vash. There's a long retrospective going over the series to date.

At one point Meryl crumples up a piece of paper and flings it into a trashcan - and up pops the cat!

Meryl points out that Vash always found a peaceful way to solve incidents without hurting anyone. The two girls wonder what man Monica was after, that Vash said he wanted to meet - and in that episdoe, Vash pulled the trigger for the first time.

On with the retrospective. Vash is saving innocent women from a father-son psyco pair, using his last bullet to kill them. Back to the report writing, where the cat yowls into the night.

Meryl ponders on what is hidden within Vash. She thinks back to when Vash helped the power plant. She thinks how everyone who they have met have benefitted from Vash's help. And then Meryl wonders ... thinking of the last episode ... what if the "real Vash" is the harsh man that shot the assassin nand threatened to kill him.

The girls go in to Vash's room to see him and realize he is completely covered with scars. It's the price he paid for protecting people. Vash says he has to come to terms with his past. The Sheriff tells Vash to get going out of town, and he does so, sadly. Millie and Meryl head on out after him.
