McDonalds Launching Healthy Food

McDonalds is working on creating a new, healthy line of foods focussing on salads and non-fatty meals.

With lawsuits claiming that McDonalds is causing people to get fat, McDonalds is striking back by showing people could easily choose to eat healthily at their restaurants if they only wanted to. They will be creating a GoActive meal for adults, promoted by Bob Greene, a fitness expert.

The meal will include a fresh salad along with a booklet that describes healthy exercise, and a pedometer.

The worst offender in the restuarant industry is the French Fry, offered at just about every restaurant. This food item traces back to WWI, when US soldiers visiting northern France fell in love with the traditional meal. The meal is actually Dutch and Belgian, not French.

French fries are bad for you no matter WHAT diet you're on. First, they're loaded full of natural sugars. Next, they are typically fried in trans fatty acids - used because the extra hydrogen helps it last longer. Unfortunately for humans, trans fatty acids cause numerous health problems.

Also, the order size of fries has grown immensely over the years - almost four times as many fries on a plate in many cases.

McDonalds is at least trying to help with the trans fatty acids issue - they have switched oil blends. The new blend has much more polyunsaturated fats while cutting the trans-fatty acid in half. The mix gives much of the same flavor with much more healthy oils.
