Low Carb Bread, Bun and Roll Mix

Sometimes you just want to eat a roll with that burger, or a buttered bun with that steak. Luckily, DixieDiner has created a delicious bread that is just one carb each!

I've been on low carb fully for 3 months now and pretty much any desire to eat bread or carbs has long gone. When I have bread now, it tastes like tasteless sponge and I don't enjoy it. But there are times when I'd like to eat a burger without cutting it into bits. So we grabbed this bread mix from DixieDiner to give it a try.

It was really easy to make - some butter, eggs and water, and about 20 minutes in the oven. The buns came out quite fresh looking. We made a batch of muffins too, and those were also tasty looking. The 'bag' that you buy contains two mix packets, and each makes about twenty rolls.

Now for the taste. We put our buns on the top and bottom of our burgers, and went to watch a Red Sox game on TV. This is the typical eat-without-thinking situation, munching on your burger while the plays take place. The buns were great! My boyfriend noticed they had a whole-wheat-bread grittiness to them - not gritty in a bad way, but in a texture way. They were moist and great at holding the burgers. I hardly noticed them at all, it tasted like a "burger" and in my opinion it didn't have the "bad taste" of the fluffy buns I'd tried before.

We are planning on crumbling some of the muffins up tomorrow for other bread-requiring recipes and think they'll do great. In general we are THRILLED with this bread mix and would gladly use it whenever we really wanted a bread component to a meal. Give it a try!
