Review of Our Hope Place

Review of Our Hope Place
Our Hope Place is a website and a blog about pregnancy and infant loss. The heading on their homepage says “Life After Miscarriage- the New Normal”. This lend the site a down to earth tone right off the bat and you can also tell that the creators of the site have “been there” as it were because life after pregnancy or infant loss is always going to be different than life before.

The site was created by two colleges friends, Sharon and Laura. After college, both went on to experience miscarriages and felt they needed to do something to help other women who'd experienced similar losses.

The site includes many, many blog posts from its co-creators on various topics. There is a small question and answer section in which some of the blog's readers have posted personal stories or posed questions. Additionally, there is a tab titled “Products and Stuff We love and Want to share”.

There is a tab titled “Send a Gift” which offers products you could use to “help someone who has suffered from miscarriage by acknowledging her loss.” Of course you could buy these items for yourself as well but I love that they put it n the third person. Often, a woman who has experienced a miscarriage or similar loss will buy herself a piece of memorial jewelry. However, it's far less common that someone close to her will buy that jewelry for her. It really sends the message that her loss really is a big deal.

The final tab is titled “Share How Someone Helped You”. Many posts in various miscarriage forums focus on insensitivity of friends and family or medical professional's incompetence. These things certainly occur far too often after miscarriages, however, it's nice to see the site encouraging a positive spin. Women may read stories which sound like their own experiences. Not only does this foster a sense of support but it may even give women ideas to research further or to bring up with their doctors if they get pregnant again.
