Dole Very Veggie Salad Mix
The items found in this 12oz bag of salad mix include romaine lettuce, iceberg lettuce, carrots, snow peas, red cabbage, and radishes. This is a nice improvement from the solely-iceberg salad blends. I normally toss in grape tomatoes and olives. Tomatoes are just so good for you, and olives are tasty :) So that, along with a healthy dressing, is my typical lunch.
Be cautious about what you add into your salad of course. Your salad could go from quite healthy to enormously unhealthy if you slather on the wrong dressing or piles of extra items. So be aware of the carb counts of any additional items you mix in.
The bag claims it has 4 servings per container, and I imagine that could be true if you were eating this as a side salad with a dinner. In my case I eat it as my main course for lunch so I only get 2 servings per bag. So that is what I'm reporting here, since many people do that.
So for a half a bag of salad mix, 6oz, that is only 40 calories total! There is zero fat, zero cholesterol, and only 20mg of sodium.
There are 4g carbs but 2g of those are fiber - great! - so that's only 2g net carbs. You also get 1g of protein.
You get 100% of your vitamin A, 50% Vitamin K, 30% Vitamin C and 15% folate. So you're getting some good nutrition for your meal.
I find it a little silly that they have "pairing instructions" on the front of the bag. Really? For a salad? They recommend creamy lemon-garlic dressing. Sorry, I'll stick with the dressings I enjoy :)
The price where I buy it is $2.68 a bag, which is $1.34 a serving. That's quite a reasonable price for a delicious, healthy meal that I look forward to.
I'll note that my boyfriend will not eat this because it has radishes in it. SO there is that aspect of it - that perhaps some might not enjoy the radish or red cabbage.
But if you like the ingredients, I highly recommend it. It's an easy way to get a salad into your daily mix.
