Our Member Guest Tournament is one of the biggest tournaments we have during our golfing season. Janet Gravette was again in charge and she put together a great event. Janet is a good organizer and gets things done in style and on time. It is a big job as well I know as having worked on this one several time since joining the Mill Creek Golf Club ladies group in 2005.

Janet always cheery and ready to go

One big thing that Janet did this year was organize finding sponsors to donate towards this tournament. It relieved the members from bringing donated items to be used as a raffle and door prizes. It gave her enough money to put together a great event. The format we have used for several years is a two ball best shot for gross and net of the four member teams. The initial fee for the member and her guest was posted early in a flyer by Janet in the ladies locker room. She had a sign-up sheet for members to put together their teams.

With this early planning and announcements a previous board meetings helped interest members to sign-up early so ended up with eight teams. This was a good turn-out as we have a small membership and Janet had requested many members to help with breakfast items and with goodie bags and personal gifts for each person at the luncheon.

Janet made these neat little purses that held a visor clip and Mill Creek ball marker

The great day and I arrived early at the club house to help with breakfast. Janet had some things set up and Ruth from grill had tables and equipment ready. Soon others arrived with more things for breakfast and we were ready to serve at 8:00 a.m. My guest Shelley Smith arrived and introduced her to our playing partners Nancy and Carol. Shelley had been a member of our ladies group but had to take a couple years off because of an injury. She was so happy to be part of this tournament as she greeted old friends.

The tournament started at 9:00 a.m. with a shotgun start and our team had to take a ride out to #16 which is a par three hole. We did well here and began enjoying the day. It was a little windy and it did get hot as we did not finish until 1:45 p.m. I thought we did well but I knew it would probably be in the middle, which is where we ended up. It moved a little slow for me I like to move along when playing and we had to wait on several holes.

Janet had made arrangements with The Range a popular gourmet restaurant in Salado. We were seated in an outside veranda with tables set up around the outside area. The food was delicious and with a four course luncheon. I was impressed and the service was excellent. Matt our young Pro came to announce the winners in both gross and net and as I thought we were in the middle of the pack. He also announced the winners of the closest to the pin and long drive contests. We lost out on both of those as well. It was a great day and Janet handed little gifts for everyone she had asked to help put on this tournament. I talked to her afterwards since I helped her three years ago if she thought it was time for her to retire. She agreed but she put together a great event.
